Liminal is now accepting submissions for its second issue.
We accept submissions online only, via our online submissions manager.
What we want:
- Original and unpublished fiction, nonfiction, book reviews, music reviews, poetry, artwork, comics, photography and short film from artists aged 13-19. (See specific guidelines below.)
What we don’t want:
- Your first draft of anything.
- Gratuitous anything (sex, violence, you name it). We’re smart enough to know what’s integral to a story and what’s just for shock value. You should be, too.
- FanFiction
- Anything libelous, slanderous, plagiarized or infringing on copyright.
Please adhere to the following guidelines for your specified genre:
Fiction
- We accept stories ranging from 500-4,000 words.
- We accept all genres, but will reject gratuitous material.
- Please send only one short story at a time.
- Submit your story online via our submissions manager.
Poetry
- We accept poetry up to 40 lines long.
- Please send no more than three poems at a time.
- Submit your work online via our submissions manager.
Artwork/Photography
- Do not send original work!
- Email scanned art, comics, photos, and digital media files as jpg attachments. If your work is accepted, we will request larger files.
- Submit your artwork online via our submissions manager.
Nonfiction
- We accept nonfiction work ranging from 500-4,000 words.
- Please send only one nonfiction piece at a time.
- Do not send attachments.
- Submit your work online via our submissions manager.
Short Film
- Because video files are stinkin’ huge, please query us before sending them.
- Contact us either by email or our online submissions manager.
- Include a brief overview of the film, the length (time) of the film, and specify whether the film is live action or animation. Please provide a link to your work at Vimeo or Youtube if available. If we are interested in premiering the work, we will request you send the file.
Reviews
- We accept book and music reviews ranging from 500 – 1000 words.
- Please send only one review at a time.
- Do not send attachments.
- Submit your work online via our submissions manager.
Important! For all submissions, be sure to include your full name, age, and preferred email address. We swear we won’t share this information with anyone. We care about your privacy; and we hate spammers, too.
The Fine Print
Simultaneous submissions are fine. If your piece is accepted somewhere else first, let us know.
All contributors will be required to sign a publication agreement. If you are a minor, we require the signature of a parent or guardian.
If we select your piece for publication, we claim First Electronic Rights. This means we will be the first online journal to publish the work. Your story will appear online for the issue in the publication agreement, and will remain in the archives. If your piece is selected for our print publication, we claim First North American Rights. This means we will be the first print publication to publish the work. After publication, rights return to the contributor. We ask if you do reprint the work later, you indicate the work first appeared in Liminal.
We can’t offer monetary compensation at this time. We hope in the future to be brilliantly rich and pay contributors. In the meantime, however, we’ll just have to agree that you provide the art and we’ll provide the gallery. We’ll also shout your success from the rooftops.
When we begin the print publication, contributors will receive one complimentary copy of the issue in which your work appears, as well as a discounted rate on subsequent copies.
